There is some limited ability with the point and shoot cameras. It is simple with my fancy schmancy one. If you have the ability to control the depth of field (f-stop) on your camera then you can achieve this. It is done with low depth of field (low f-stop number). I think it is fun, it is a great way to isolate your subject from the surroundings.
